Week 14 Sensory Activity - Eat Dinner With Your Hands

Share this post:

Touching different textures of food is one of the best sensory activities out there! This can be lots of fun for a kid, or pretty overwhelming if they are already having lots of sensory issues when it comes to food.

You know your child best, so you decide how far you want to push it.

  • For a sensitive child, try something simple such as French fries or roasted potatoes with their fingers. Maybe some sliced fruit or toast. Start with foods they like and are comfortable with eating and touching and then expand into other foods.
  • For a child who loves eating and doesn't mind touching lots of different textures, you can go as far as serving spaghetti with sauce, mashed potatoes, or yogurt.
  • Either way, be ready with lots of paper towels or wipes nearby so you can wipe your child's hands if they decide it's too much for them.

It's also up to you whether you want to join in on the ridiculous utensil-free mess, or let your kids have all the fun. Many toddlers would get a kick out of seeing their parents eat with their hands one day!

Psst, if you happened to come across this page and are wondering what the heck this is all about: We are doing the 52 Weeks of Sensory challenge. Come join us!
