Supplies:
- Christmas tree template (print yours here)
- Cardstock - varying shades of green, yellow. Construction paper would work too, but won't be as sturdy, so I highly recommend the cardstock!
- This package has green and yellow cardstock.
- If you're doing this activity with a group of kids, you might want to get a package of green cardstock.
- Here is a great set of holiday patterns cardstock
- And here is a St. Patrick's day set that would work really well for a fun variety of green Christmas trees!
- But of course, plain holiday green is great because then your kids can decorate the trees how they like
- Scissors - grab your toddler-safe scissors if you want your child to help! Or you can cut the trees out from the template yourself and have this activity ready to go if your child's attention span is as short as mine's (haha it's true)
- Pencil
- Craft sticks - you know, those "popsicle" sticks
- Glue stick - these purple disappearing glue sticks are SO MUCH BETTER than the glue sticks from my childhood. We love these and are never going back to the white ones!
- Markers - blue, red, or any color your child chooses! Or use small stickers or glitter to decorate the trees!

Let's make a paper Christmas tree craft:
Step 1: Print your Christmas tree template. Cut out the pieces, and fold the tree along the dotted line.
Step 2: Fold a sheet of green cardstock in half. Slide the template over the fold and trace it. Also trace the star on yellow cardstock.
Step 3: Cut out the tree. Continue with 2 more sheets of green cardstock, until you have 3 trees.
Step 4: Leave all the trees folded in half. Glue one side of one tree to the side of the next tree.
Step 5: And the same with the third, until you have a 3D effect Christmas tree.
Step 6: Then, glue the flat part of the tree to the middle of a craft stick, leaving just the top and bottom of the stick exposed. Glue the star to the top of the craft stick.
Step 7: Use markers (or stickers or glitter!) to decorate the tree with colorful circles for ornaments for the tree.
Step 8: Optional: turn this into tree ornament by gluing a piece of twine to the back of the craft stick.
Easy, right??
